An exciting new development is happening at your Club! From this year, we have changed how Members of the Year and Life Members are nominated.
In the past, the Committee would usually agonise over which of our valuable Members should be awarded the Member of the Year – some years are harder than others, and some years it’s almost impossible! So, to make the process fairer, and to allow greater participation from the Members, nominations will now be sought from you, our dear Member.
Nominations are set to open in April 2022 via our website, or by direct email to the President. More details on how to nominate will be available once the nomination process begins. Along with the new nomination process, a standardised set of criteria has been formalised. To see the full list, please email the President or Secretary, or, in due course, the full list will be added to our website. In short though, nominees should have the following attributes-
Member of the Year
To qualify for consideration for the award, the member should:
- be highly respected and of unquestioned integrity;
- be an active and financial member for a period of at least 1 year;
- has shown significant initiative, innovation and dedication to furthering the objects of the Club; or
- has demonstrated a continuing involvement and enthusiasm ‘beyond the call’ in the promotion of the Club, the success of an event(s), and/or the advancement of the motoring movement within the wider Community.
As the Committee will ultimately decide which nominee will be given the award, an elected member of the Committee can not be awarded Member of the Year while still serving on the Committee. Member of the Year may be awarded posthumously.
Life Membership
For consideration for the award, the member should:
- be highly respected and of unquestioned integrity;
- be an active and financial member for a period of no fewer than 10 years;
- has shown significant initiative, innovation and dedication to furthering the objects of the Club; or
- has demonstrated a continuing involvement and enthusiasm ‘beyond the call’ in the promotion of the Club, the success of an event(s), and/or the advancement of the motoring movement within the wider Community; or
- has served on the committee for a significant period of time; or
- has been a chair or member of a subcommittee for a significant period of time and fulfilled a role that was essential to the efficient/effective running and wellbeing of the Club.
Nominees shall be vetted by a sub-committee before being presented to the full Committee for discussion. The sub-committee shall include three current Life Members and be chaired by the President. As the President holds a role in the sub-committee, they are not eligible for Life Membership whilst actively serving as President. A Life Membership cannot be awarded posthumously.
One Member of the Year shall be awarded annually, and a Life Membership shall be awarded as such exceptional individuals are identified.
I am very excited about these changes and I wish to thank David Provan for the initial idea and the working documents, and to all those who helped shape and adapt David’s input to suit the specific needs of Motafrenz.
A link to the form to complete for either nomination will be sent out with the AGM notice and will be available on the Club Website shortly.
