Event Recap: British & European Motoring Show 2024

An early morning pre-meet at The Sporting Globe in Chirnside Part (totes masc) had all 25+ of us raring to go. We were also joined by the effervescent 4-legged Pancho!

After a quick pootle down the road and the usual marshal wrangling, we were in the gate and setting up in our usual “avenue of gayness” under the acorn trees, which provide lovely shade.

Yarra Valley Racecourse had been transformed into a haven for car enthusiasts of all kinds, with the spotlight firmly on British and European automobiles. Enthusiasts gathered to revel in the beauty of classic and modern cars alike.

Wandering the other club displays, we observed the timeless elegance of Rolls-Royce and Bentley to the sleek designs of Aston Martin and Jaguar, the British lineup exuded class and sophistication. On the other hand, the European contingent brought some serious horsepower to the table, with the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz turning heads with their performance and style.

We all had a lovely BBQ lunch in the marquee – thanks to Gordon and his assistants for a lovely meal.

Beyond the shiny exteriors and powerful engines, the Yarra Valley Racecourse car show was also a gathering of like-minded individuals who shared a passion for all things automotive. It was a day of camaraderie and good vibes, from swapping stories about restoration projects to debating the merits of different makes and models.

One highlight of the day was searching for Gordon’s car keys; they were misplaced somewhere in his car…we knew this as we could start the car via the keyless ignition! Eventually, after 45 minutes of rifling through bags and checking under seats, the recalcitrant keys were found under the spare tyre – they were given a stern talking to! On the plus side, none of our cars failed to proceed at the end of the day – small mercies!

This was the, or one of the, largest contingents Motafrenz had ever displayed; we were overflowing our usual allotted area. But fear not, we already have a plan for a bigger display next year!

British and European Motoring Show is always a wonderful event on the Motafrenz calendar, a time to show our support to the AOMC and show off our lovely cars. See you all next year!
