Event Recap: Midsumma Carnival 2022

Words by Alan Benedetti.

Welcome to Melbourne Pride Season!

After much planning and getting ourselves all organised, Gordon, Paul H & I were all bright eyed and bushy tailed at 9.45 on a lovely Sunday morning – set-up was quickly completed as we kept it simple with just a TV and some laminated posters.

We used a 3min slide show of photos showing off many of the fun events we participate in whilst also showing off a range of cars, both old and new.

Chris G & I manned the stall for the first 2hr shift, with Mat G & John M handling the next – Chris Q & Matt NM handled the last of the shifts. Paul & Gordon were on hand if we needed a break and also keeping an eye on our delightfully shady picnic spot!

Being such a warm day, the marquee was a little uncomfortable – particularly was we had a dark green roof – the white roofed marquees were much cooler, but the breeze was welcomed. Gordon’s supply of chilled water was much appreciated…

The crowds were much smaller than in the past – whether or not this was due to the temperature or to the dreaded “C” word – who knows, but with the lesser numbers all stalls and pathways, it was easier to checkout the community groups and businesses showing their wares. The atmosphere was still quite electric with every part of the community on display! A multitude of acts performed on the numerous stages – there really was something for everyone!

Bump-out was a fast and simple affair with most of us abiding by the Midsumma suggestion of “if you can’t carry it out, don’t bring it” – Gordon was our exception to the suggestion… But hey, a Motafrenz event is not a Motafrenz event without Gordon supplying enough water, tea & coffee to keep a small army hydrated… 😊

Most of those who attended adjourned to Paul’s home for the short walk to the local dumpling place for a thank you dinner – Mat G & John M chose not to come along, but it was a fun night!

Thanks to those who helped with the stall!
