Event Recap: National Motoring Heritage Day 2019

Words by Jeff.

NMHD (National Motoring Heritage Day) today had a great turnout considering the weather forecast, and a wonderful Motafrenz contingent.

We all met up at the meeting place and where we caught up with new member KD and his groovy red MX5, Nick in his Beetle, Rowan made it in his splendid and well-presented Range Rover, Dave brought is great little brand new Suzuki Jimny 4WD and myself in my trusty EH Holden.

We soon headed not far, to the Yarra Glen racecourse and what a turnout considering the weather forecast! The wide range of vehicles was well over 100 years with some extremely rare vehicles attending.

On arrival, Nick observed a huge puddle presumably from KD’s MX5. On later inspection we found there was a decent drip from a crack in his radiator hose. So the meant leaving the radiator cap off and topping up with water many times on the way home. We certainly hope KD got home okay with too much drama.

There were many favourites but the beautiful Citroën DS was certainly a favourite of all of us.

With the afternoon’s weather closing in on us soon after midday, it was time for many of us to leave rather than being washed out.

The NMHD is always a great day, very friendly and always a surprising turnout of wonderful vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
