Come and join us on a long weekend enjoying some of the most beautiful parts of Victoria and New South Wales.
DETAILS: our Easter holiday is based in Albury-Wodonga, a large metropolitan town with excellent accommodation and dining choices and some fabulous touring available nearby.
On Friday we will drive up the Hume for lunch and a wonderful afternoon enjoying the wines and produce of the Region. Then we check-in and relax before our welcome barbecue sitting around the pool. On Saturday we visit the Bonegilla Migrant Experience – a museum devoted to Australia’s largest immigrant camp. Then on to The Australian Army Museum Bandiana – “a leading-edge focus for the interpretation and display of Australia’s rich military heritage”. Next, we take a scenic drive along the upper Murray Valley to Lake Hume which “contains six times more water than Sydney Harbour”. Then we return to Albury for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in town. On Sunday we go further afield to Mt Kosciuszko National Park and on the way visit Batlow famous for apples and Tumbarumba, a very pretty village and one of the local favorites. On Monday we make a day of it by taking the scenic route home to Melbourne. This will include a farewell picnic lunch where will enjoy all the regional foods that we have shopped for over the weekend.
TIME: 9:00am for 9:30am departure on Friday 7th April
MEET: Pre-meet at Bunning’s, 700 Hume Highway, Craigieburn.
If car-pooling: We will pick you up at 9:40am at Craigieburn Station – be at the corner of Hothlyn Dr and Carlisle St.
BRING and CARPOOLING: Contact organizers for a list of what to bring and carpooling options.
SUITS: All vehicle types.
ROADS: Mostly sealed – Freeway, main roads, some short stretches of graded dirt road. Some parking areas may not be sealed.
ACCOMMODATION: We have made a bulk booking; share accommodation total approx. $200 – $250 for three nights, staying at The Crystal Fountain Motel in Albury – https://crystalfountain.com.au/ OR – Albury-Wodonga is a big metro area with many other places to stay. For each day we will nominate a starting point for the day’s activities so people staying elsewhere can join the group at the Starting Point.
BOOKING: Essential as the organisers need to book accommodation, wine tastings and dining.
